Assessment Specialist & Coach
Glean Education is hiring an Assessment Specialist & Coach to join our Glean Coaching team. This role will support our clients in California implementing the new Reading Difficulties Risk Screening (Ed Code 53008) which will be a springboard for many districts to implement system changes related to their assessment practices. Our Assessment Specialist & Coach will help schools set up successful assessment systems by providing guidance on the Ed Code and best-practices for screening, conducting screening assessments, training teachers to be site-based assessment specialists, and guiding response to screening efforts. Additionally, where appropriate, our Assessment Specialist & Coach will deliver coaching through Glean’s Structured Literacy Coaching ™ model to ensure quantifiable impact on teacher confidence, instructional efficacy, and student literacy impact.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Assessment Support
- Work in close consultation with the school leader to set up assessment systems that support the implementation of CA’s new Reading Difficulties Risk Screening law.
- Assist district in receiving training for applicable teachers and staff on the selected screener.
- Deliver screening to students to lighten year 1 load and offer a model for implementation.
- Set-up systems for assessment protocols aligned to Ed Code relating to parent notification and response to screening.
- Support schools with a better understanding of MTSS/RTI options that will respond to screener results and help students reduce risk of reading difficulties (i.e. forming small groups in Teir 1, pulling-out small groups for Teir 2, and/or individualizing instruction for Teir 3)
2. Training
- Be present for all in-person or virtual training sessions provided to client districts either from Glean Education or vendors (when applicable).
- Facilitate trainings for Glean client districts (when applicable).
3. Coaching
- Where appropriate, provide formalized dialogical coaching to client coaches and/or teachers delivered virtually via Zoom or in-person aligned with Glean’s Structured Literacy CoachingTM model in California. (*Training on the Glean Structured Literacy Model will be provided upon hiring.)
- Build rapport with district leaders and coaches to understand client context, needs, and areas of support by creating a positive, warm, and supportive coaching environment that involves dialogue, a sense of humor, empathy, and patience.
- Model and deliver data talks on student literacy data to build coaches' capacity for delivering data talks in their coaching sessions.
- Model and deliver small group instruction (if applicable) to demonstrate best practices in a given literacy sub-area if requested by the coach or teacher.
- Create a written record of all sessions and provide follow-up to ensure the integration of skills that drive impact.
4. Reporting & Communicating
- Attend weekly internal meetings at Glean Education
- Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with your manager
5. Technical and Business Expertise
- Use Zoom, Calendly, and Google Suite to schedule, deliver, and record coaching sessions.
- Understand client barriers and thought-partner with the Glean team to address them.
- Have a deep understanding of each screening tool (training will be provided upon hiring)
Qualifications & Experience: (Hiring manager to review and update as needed.)
- A Master's Degree is preferred (comparable work experience will be considered) with major coursework related to literacy
- Significant experience presenting professional development to educators
- Training in LETRS, Glean Education’s Online Learning Academy, AIM Institute, Keys to Literacy, and/or other Science of Reading-based professional learning
- Exemplary knowledge of delivering reading instruction based on the Science of Reading, Structured Literacy assessment and instructional practices, and Data-Based Decision Making
- Orton-Gillingham training is a plus
- 5 -10 years of previous experience as a reading interventionist, instructional coach, school leader, or administrator with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding objectives and goals
- Comfort running multiple projects simultaneously
- Business travel by air or car is required quarterly, but possibly up to once per month.
- Technologically Savvy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Where, When, & How Much:
The salary range for full-time (40 hours per week) is $68,000 - $88,000 depending on experience. Contracts for partial-year support may be offered at $60/hour for part-time work depending on contract needs.
This job is based in San Rafael, CA. Monday and Friday are work-from-home; Tuesday - Thursday are work from the office. Remote workers from other areas in California will be considered. Interested?
